Here is an excellent treatment for a pool with bad algae bloom going on:
Step #1- Add Pool Perfect from Natural Chemistry, Wait One Hour.
Step #2- Shock with heavy chlorine (12% in liquid form), Wait Four Hours.
Step #3- Add Pool 1st Aid from Natural Chemistry, leave overnight.
Next day vacuum and backwash. RESHOCK if neccesary.
** This set of steps is an alternate treatment to an algicide and shock combination**

Remember too that heavy organics ie: dead leaves, rodents etc all decomposing in the pool will absorb or 'eat' all the chemicals you add to the mix so make sure to remove as much of the debris as possible.
